What is HPB58-3A Brass?

HPb58-3A Brass is a lead-containing brass alloy material, which is known for its excellent cutting performance, wear resistance and high strength, and is widely used in mechanical engineering and manufacturing.

This alloy is mainly composed of copper, zinc and a small amount of lead, of which the content of copper and zinc is about 58% and 40% respectively, while the content of lead accounts for only a small part. The chemical composition of HPb58-3A Brass includes copper: 57.3~57.8%, lead: 2.4~2.6%, tin: 0.7%, iron: 3.1%, aluminum: 0.45~0.5%, iron + tin: 0.25~0.3%, cadmium: <100ppm, zinc: balance.

In terms of mechanical properties, when the bar and coil are processed in the state of /mm4~120, the tensile strength /Mpa340, the elongation 17.5; when the specification /mm2~10, the tensile strength /Mpa400, the elongation 17.5, and the Brinell hardness 140~160.

HPb58-3A brass material has good ductility and deep drawing performance, and is suitable for making structural parts. In addition, it also has good anti-friction performance, easy brazing and welding, and good stability to general corrosion, but has a tendency to corrosion cracking.

What is CW617N Brass?

CW617N Brass is what's often referred to as "European brass" and is a leaded brass alloy that's traditionally used in Europe for pipe fittings. It provides excellent hot forging characteristics. It's known for good machinability and corrosion resistance.

The chemical composition is as follows: CuZn40Pb2 (CW617N)Cu57-59, Al0.05, Ni0.3Fe0.3Pb1.6-2.5Sn0.3Zn, the rest, the rest 0.2.

Lead brass is an extremely important and most widely used complex brass with excellent cutting performance and wear resistance.

The lead content of lead brass is less than 3%, and a small amount of Fe, Ni or Sn is often added. Ph exists in a free state in the organization, splitting the matrix, so that lead brass has good cutting performance and friction reduction.

What is CW602N Brass?

CW602N also known as DZR or Dezincification resistant brass is alloyed with a small amount of arsenic which greatly increases its resistance to dezincification corrosion -- a type of corrosion that dissolves zinc out of brass leaving behind a sponge-like structure. The composition is approximately 57-59% copper, 0.05% Arsenic, and the remainder being zinc and other elements. It's highly beneficial in areas where the water has aggressive characteristics.

CW602N is a dezincification resistant brass, and its corresponding China national standard grade according to international standards is CuZn36Pb2As. This brass has a duplex structure and contains a certain proportion of lead and arsenic, which is designed to provide good resistance to dezincification type corrosion.

CW602N also has improved corrosion resistance, good strength levels, and easy processing and hot forging, making it widely used in industrial applications, especially use in the countries near the sea, like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, etc, for potable water systems, plumbing, and environments requiring high corrosion resistance.

Key differences:

1. Lead content:

   - CW617N and CW602N are lead-free or low-lead alloys, with better corrosion resistance.

   - HPB58-3A contains lead 2.0-3.0 and may not meet current regulations for potable water in some regions.

2. Dezincification resistance:

   - CW602N typically has the best dezincification resistance.

   - CW617N has good resistance.

   - HPB58-3A has moderate resistance.

3. Cost:

   - HPB58-3A is generally the least expensive.

   - CW617N is slightly more expensive due to its lower lead content.

   - CW602N may be the most expensive due to its specialized composition for Cu, Pb and AS.

4. Regulatory compliance:

   - CW617N and CW602N are more likely to meet current and future regulations for potable water systems, plumbing, and environments requiring high corrosion resistance.

   - HPB58-3A may not meet stricter lead content regulations in some areas.

In conclusion, the choice between these materials should be based on the specific requirements of your project. CW617N is widely acceptable and offers good performance in most scenarios, while CW602N should be considered in aggressive water conditions due to its higher resistance to dezincification. HPB58-3A is an option when cost is a central factor, though localized regulations regarding lead content may influence its acceptability.
